Few Minutes? Make a couple Bucks!

I have done survey sites for years. Going on 7 years to be exact. I started back when I had my first kid and needed money here and there to make ends meet. So on the tab at the top of my blog labeled surveys, click and check it out. It tells you where I have made my money and all the sited I use. If it appears on that page I have tried it and recommend it. Surveys are long and can be boring but if you want to earn some money, its a legitimate option. What do you have to lose? Nothing right? So give it a try.
I also use smiley and bzzz websites to try new products. Its fun, its free and requires very little time from an already busy schedule. Check those out as well. Its always fun to get a free full size product at no cost to you. I like the fact I can try before I commit to buying. Smart companies really! So there is my money saving and money making tip of the day!

5. Beer Can Roasted Chicken with Herbed Wild Rice and Steamed Asparagus

1 whole chicken cleaned washed and cavities cleaned... dry off with paper towel ~ 6.00
1 lemon ~ 33 cents
Uncle Ben's Wild Rice Box mix ~ 1.98
2 pounds Asparagus cleaned and steamed ~ 3.98
1 can of beer ~ 1.00

So simple way to make a chicken as good as a store bought rotisserie.... Turn your BBQ on high on outside burners...2 middle should be off or on very low to prevent flare ups.... Let it heat up...In the meantime clean and pat dry your chicken and oil it and season it according to liking... the oil is going to help create that beautiful brown crust...If you don't eat the skin then don't worry about the calories...If you eat the skin well a little oil isn't going to phase your system then. Take a large beer can 16 ounce I used and dumped half of the beer out...you wont taste the beer so don't fret it...but if all else dump the beer out and add herbs and chicken broth in the can. Then place beer can on grill place chicken over the beer can like you see and I use the top rack to lean chicken on and rest the wings ...it looks funny but the taste in phenomenal! I let it cook for an hour at 450-500. My BBQ has a built in thermometer. When the thickest part of chicken (thigh area and breast I read) reads 170-180 I pull chicken off and rest 10 minutes on a big plate. After resting if you pull wing it should just separate from joint easily..another way you know chicken is done... and pull leg and the leg and thigh should just come off carcass easily with a slight pull. Then cut breast off and serve. Serve with rice made according to directions and some steamed asparagus, Enjoy!
TOTAL COST ~ 14.70 and feeds 4 adults easily!

Cheap and Cool School Lunches Under 2.50!!

I always hear parents say their kids are bored with their hot lunch/cold lunch meals. School menus are recycled in some system of a 4 or 6 week rotation. So here are some ideas to keep your little ones mind and body fed during school hours. I can't emphasize how IMPORTANT it is to feed your kids as nutritionally as possible. Make sure you supply your child with milk because Milk is essential for brain and bone development. With that being said each of these meals will cost around or less than 2.00 each if you figure in a 50 cent milk bought from cafeteria. Remember kids portions are SMALLER than adults. If anything bulk up on fruits and veggies!! Treats are also ok in moderation as well! A Zinger a day or a Hostess cookie will not harm a child as long as you don't allow them to eat the whole box in 1 sitting! Its all in moderation!

1. Turkey, Bacon Ranch Roll Ups and Frozen Yogurt

Take 1 Flour tortilla laid flat, smear some ranch on and the place turkey, some shredded cheese, lettuce and a slice of bacon on also. Roll up like a little burrito.

Frozen Yogurt cup is so easy and yummy! Take your kids favorite yogurt cup or tube and place in freezer. Place in lunch bag before school. Keeps it cold and make yogurt fun at school!

2.Chicken Salad Sandwich with Fresh Peach Slices

Mix together some chopped fine chicken breast with celery diced, pickles diced and onion diced(optional). Then add in some mayo, some Dijon mustard, black pepper sprinkle and dried basil. Mix well and place on Natures Pride/WonderBread and or Sweetheart/Standish Farms wheat bread and top with lettuce and tomato. Pack and go with some fresh peaches.

3. Turkey/Cheese or Ham/Cheese roll ups with Fresh Veggies/Ranch and Fresh Grapes

Take some turkey and ham and place sliced cheese in middle and roll up/ Serve with some crackers. Then also baggie up some veggies and fresh grapes for a healthy , filling meal!

4. Chef Salad with some Wheat Crackers and a Banana

In a Rubbermaid bowl add in some salad mix then in separate baggies add cheese and meat in one, some sunflower seeds in another so when kids are at school they can just dump the ingredients in a bowl and dress with a small side cup of ranch or dressing of choice. Then round it off with some whole wheat crackers and a small banana. Fun, delish and very inexpensive!

Rubbermaid makes bowl in every size including little 1-2 ounce cups for dressings etc.

5. Pita Pocket Sandwich with Apples and Peanut Butter to Dip

Take a pita pocket and open it up. Stuff with sandwich filling of choice, ham, chicken, turkey etc, then place cheese, lettuce and tomatoes if child likes along with any condiment. Then cut apples up and soak in orange juice to prevent browning. Drain juice off place in baggie along with a peanut butter cup. Simple delish and fun!

6. Cold Pizza and Veggie Sticks with Ranch

I give my kids leftover pizza from delivery or frozen. It is a huge treat here! Then pair with veggies and ranch and you have a very inexpensive and healthy meal.

7. Ham Salad With Watermelon Cubes

Chop ham finely add in some mayo and shredded cheese and chopped pickles if kids like. Spread on Natures Pride Bread/Wonder Bread/ or Sweetheart Whole Wheat Bread. Serve with a side baggie of watermelon cubes.

8. Deviled Eggs with Whole Wheat Crackers, Orange Wedges and Frozen Yogurt Tube or Cup

Make up some deviled eggs and serve with whole wheat crackers and Orange Wedges. Simple, healthy and always a crowd pleaser, don't forget to freeze your yogurt the night before.

9. Italian Pasta Salad, Frozen Yogurt and Grapes

Mix already cooked and cooled pasta with some green and black olives, tomatoes diced, chopped mozzarella pieces, blanched asparagus pieces, broccoli and red onion diced. Then add in some Olive Garden Italian dressing or favorite Italian dressing and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Let sit over night and dish out!

10. Sub Sandwich and Pineapple Bites

Split open a small hoagie Roll and layer in ham, turkey, salami and roast beef. Top with cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Then lightly spread some Italian dressing on in the inside of the roll so it absorbs the flavor. Place in baggie along with a baggie or bowl of pineapple tidbits or chunks. Yummy!

Soup for .50 cents A Bowl. I Promise!

Soup is the brick and mortar to the modern day restaurant.

I am in love with soup! I have so many fond memories of my moms hearty bowls of steamy yumminess as a child. My mother had to stretch every dollar she had to feed a family of 6 very hungry people and the best way for her to fill us up on cold Montana winter nights, was with a big ole bowl of soup. So here are my 5 favorite soups that cost less than 50 cents a bowl without skimping on quality or ingredients! That's my promise!

1. Peasant Potato and Bacon Soup

6 potatoes peeled and diced in half inch cubes ~ 1.00
2 carrots peeled and shredded ~ 16 cents
3 celery stalks cleaned and diced ~ 10 cents
1/2 onion diced ~ .40
6 slices of raw bacon cut in 1/4 inch slices and cooked in a fry pan until brown ~ 1.50
2 cans evaporated milk ~ 1.60

In a pot add in 8 cups of water and if you have a chicken bouillon cube or 2 add in or even chicken base add in a Tablespoon, if not just use plain water, no biggie really. Then on medium add in the potatoes, celery, carrots, onion, 1 teaspoon ground pepper and 2T salt and crisp bacon in the pan. I also add in 1Tablespoon of the bacon fat from cooked bacon. Sounds gross but you won't notice but adds in great flavor. So just try it once! Then when the potatoes are tender about 30 minutes to an hour on medium, shut the heat down to low and add in the 2 cans of evaporated milk and serve. Yummo!
TOTAL COST~ 4.76 and you will get 10 - 1 cup servings easily ~ .48 cents a bowl of soup!

2. Beef Chili

3 cans of chili beans ~ 1.80
1 can Kidney Beans rinsed ~ 65 cents
6 cups tomato juice ~ .60
1 packet of mild Old El Paso Taco Seasoning ~ 75 cents
1/2 pound ground beef ~ 1.25 (2.50 a pound for 85 hamburger)
1/2 onion diced ~ 40 cents
1/2 pepper diced ~ 50 cents
In a pan brown ground beef up with the diced onions then add in 1 cup water with 1 packet of taco seasoning, simmer on low for 30 minutes. Then in a large soup pot add in the chili beans, rinsed kidney beans from the can, 6 cups of tomato juice and the seasoned mixture. Simmer on low or in a crock pot until dinnertime.

TOTAL COST ~ 5.45 This makes roughly 12 ~ 1 cup servings ~ 48 cents a bowl!

3. Split Pea Soup

1 ~ 16 ounce bag of dry peas sorted and rinsed 1.00
1 cup diced ham ~ 1.50
1/4 onion diced ~ 20 cents
1 carrot diced finely ~ 5 cents
3T chicken base or 3 bouillon cubes ~ 50 cents

In a large pan add in 8 cups of water 3 T chicken base or 3 bouillon cubes, onion, ham, carrots and the dry peas. Cook on medium low for hours or until the peas are tender. The longer you cook the more thick it will become, assuming you didn't add too much water. Can also crock pot this soup until you came home! Serve when hungry! If it gets to thick add in more water.

TOTAL COST ~ 3.25 and you will easily get 10 ~ 1 cup servings ~ each bowl costs 33 cents!

4. Chicken and Rice Soup

1 pound chicken breasts cooked cooled and shredded ~ 3.00
4 carrots peeled and diced ~ 25 cents
2 stalks celery diced ~ 20 cents
1/2 onion diced ~ 40 cents
10 cups of water
4T. chicken base ~ 1.00 or 4 bouillon cubes
1/2 cup dry wild rice or regular rice ~ .25 cents

In a large pot add in water, veggies chicken base or bouillon and rice. Once rice is tender and the veggies are add in the chicken and let it sit on low until ready to serve. If soup doesn't have enough broth due to variances with rice, add in a bit more water and chicken flavor if needed. Enjoy!

TOTAL COST ~ 5.10 with around 12 - 1 cup servings ~ 43 cents per bowl!

5. Vegetable Barley Soup

4 carrots peeled and diced ~ 40 cents
2 stalks of celery diced ~ 10 cents

In a large pot add in 9 cups of water and mix with dry Aujus mix. Then add in all veggies and the barley, cook until veggies are fork tender. Enjoy! That freaking simple, I promise! 8

I PROMISE!!! 10 Dollar and Under Quick Fix Meals!

I was at the store today, Sam's Club to be exact, and I noticed this young family buying tons of frozen prepared chicken, vegetable trays with ranch, premade burgers, and so on and so on. I was sad to see that. Those foods costed A. more to buy that way then make themselves and B. the nutritional value on a heavy set family is horrific compared to making it at home. Yes, I am old fashioned but I believe a home cooked or even semi-home cooked meal is important to a child's nutrition as well as an adults. There is NOTHING wrong with those foods in moderation but when that encompasses your whole diet, it just seems wrong to me.
